Toshiba to Push A/V Products with Internet Features

Toshiba has launched a digital convergence product initiative featuring Internet-enabled A/V devices powered by Intel and Yahoo's technologies, Nikkei Electronics Asia reported on January 13. Toshiba plans to enhance its LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) TV, LCD TV/DVD (Digital Versatile Disc) combo, and network player products with TV widgets operating on Intel and Yahoo's widget channel applications framework. Powered by Intel's Media Processor CE 3100 processor, these devices features a user-friendly interface and allow viewer to access online content and information services. In addition, Toshiba will embed Microsoft's Windows Media Center technology in these Internet-enabled A/V devices. With the Windows Media Center, TVs can access content stored on the PCs, while PCs with TV tuners can be transformed into DVRs (Digital Video Recorders). Toshiba slates the launch of said products in the US market for the second half of 2009.
